15” Panasport wheels wear Dunlop Racing tires, and an additional set of Panasport wheels is included with Hoosier tires mounted.īucket seats are covered in black upholstery with red piping, and safety equipment includes a Crow Enterprizes five-point harness and a roll bar for the driver’s seat, plus door bars and a Halon fire-suppression system. The suspension was also refreshed with upgraded components and a Panhard bar. Utilizing discs up front and drums out back, the braking system was rebuilt during the refurbishment completed in 2004. Upon the seller’s acquisition in 2001, the body was loosely fitted on the chassis of a 1956 Triumph TR3, to which it was subsequently bolted in a manner allowing it to be removed within minutes. A repaint was carried out in 2016, and a new hood was fabricated using a mold of the old panel. After being raced in primer near the completion of the seller’s refurbishment in 2004, the body was removed from the chassis and painted in red following fiberglass repairs. The fiberglass body was built by California-based Devin Enterprises, which offered its roadster-style design in several size configurations to fit various chassis. It is now offered on a bill of sale as a track-only race car with logbooks, an extra set of wheels and tires, a spare engine, and additional parts. This Devin-Triumph Special is Gold Medallion–certified with the SVRA and licensed with the HMSA and VARA.
Additional features include a TR3 four-speed manual gearbox that was rebuilt in 2017, a TR6 clutch, a limited-slip differential, Weber 42 DCOE carburetors, suspension upgrades including a Panhard bar, electronic ignition, Panasport wheels, and more as outlined below. Power is provided by a modified 2.3-liter Triumph TR3 inline-four that was rebuilt in 2018 and received a cylinder-head refresh in 2019.
Based on a Triumph TR3 chassis, the build was completed between 20, and the car has since seen regular use in the Sports Racing class at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion as well as at Sonoma, Coronado, Buttonwillow, and Willow Springs racetracks.
This 1956 Devin-bodied Special was acquired as a roller in 2001 by the seller, who had seen it race in Tecate, Mexico in the early 1960s and later found it listed for sale in a magazine in Atascadero, California in the 1990s.
